No More Adventures Dark and Deep For Now
Due to the issues with the Wizards of the Coast deauthorizing previous work released under the OGL 1.0a (or at least attempting to do so), BRW Games and Neon Necromancer Games have decided to end their license agreement relating to the Adventures Dark and Deep trademark.
This decision was mutual. Adventures Dark and Deep, like so many amazing works out now, builds on OGL-licensed work derived from some version of WotC’s System Reference Documents. Deauthorizing the original SRDs dooms so many projects. The new draft of OGL 1.2, which less awful than OGL 1.1, does not fix enough issues to make things workable. Joe Bloch of BRW Games has written his thoughts on the OGL issues here: https://www.brwgames.com/2023/01/10/impact-of-ogl-changes-to-brw-games/
While the work on Adventures Dark and Deep: Old-School Basics is mostly free of WotC-derived OGL content, excising the remaining things will take time; time we are hesitant to invest at this moment. We sincerely hope that someday our vision for an “alternate history Holmes” will be released, but unfortunately that someday isn’t today.
While we are sad that the work has to be shelved, we are hopeful that this will give us the resources we need to bring our vision for the Action! System to the world. Onward!
