The Action! System™ is a multi-genre role-playing game system.

Action! System‘s claim to fame is it was the second commercially-supported set of tabletop rules to ever be released under the Open Game License (OGL).

Originally released in 2001 by Gold Rush Games, it was used by a number of publishers over the years. It was commonly used as a replacement for another generic RPG system from the late-90s that was used in many anime-inspired games. After that system was abandoned by its creators, the Action! System™ took its place as the system of choice for those looking for an easy-to-use system with permissible licensing.

Unfortunately, like most of the tabletop industry at the time, the Action! System™ was a victim of the D20 boom and bust of the mid-00s.

In 2013, the Action! System™ was discovered by the founder of Neon Necromancer Games while looking for a replacement for the anime-influenced system he had used in his youth. From then until 2015, a variety of additions and fixes were added to the system while it was used in one game after another.

Finally, in 2020 Neon Necromancer Games purchased the rights to the Action! System™ from Gold Rush Games. Now in 2021—the Action! System‘s 20th anniversary—we are proud to start production of a new second edition of the rules.
